 Our friends at Mata Brewery have had an amazing business success story that’s too good not to share. From brewing as a passionate hobby back in 2004, to today where the team medalled at the recent NZ Cider Awards, the company’s successes go from good to great! Tammy Vitakangas and her team (including her Mum and Dad) put good old Kiwi ingenuity to work and managed to purchase second-hand brewing equipment in Wellington and decided to set up their brewery in Kawerau in the Eastern Bay of Plenty. They sold their first bottle of Mata beer in December 2005 and Mata beer was born. In the past 15 years they have continued to grow their brewery which has coincided with the growth of the ever-evolving craft beer industry. They began with just two styles of craft beer and now have a vast range, from easy drinking to full flavoured and feature lots of new seasonal releases.
They have won many New Zealand Beer Awards over the past 15 years and this year at the New Zealand Cider Awards, all of their ciders medalled. We can testify that they are indeed award winning – some of our team have sampled the Golden Kiwi and Merry Berry cider and unanimously agree with the judging panel.
Tammy’s business has grown so much that they needed to relocate their brewery, so three years ago they moved their base to Whakatane. Their new brewery has a tasting room attached to it, so you can enjoy a beer and be on hand to try new releases not yet in market. Nice work Tammy, we are super proud of you!
