Brian Carter

Director

Brian joined the team at Hamertons in 1987 after completing his Law degree at Otago University.

Brian supervises a team of six legal staff and is also responsible for trust account administration as the firms “Trust Account Partner”.

Steve Franklin

Director

After growing up in Hamilton and obtaining degrees in both Law and Social Sciences at Waikato University, Steve moved to Whakatane and commenced practise with Hamertons in 2002.  He has been a partner of the firm since May 2005.

Angela Kershaw

Associate

Angela joined Hamertons in 2010 and was appointed as an Associate in 2011.  Angela is in the Litigation Team and heads Hamertons’ Family Law practise.  Angela studied law at Waikato University and then moved to Whakatane to commence practise as a Family Lawyer in 2005.

Robert Chappell

Consultant

Robert has been at the coal face of Hamertons since 1957, firstly as a Law Clerk and registration/searching agent during study at Auckland University, followed by a period as a Solicitor at Hamertons, and from 1963 onwards, as a partner in the firm until 2003.

Georgina Murley

Lawyer

Georgina has a double degree in Law and Commerce (majoring in Economics) from Otago University.  She was admitted to the Bar in 2002 and spent the majority of her first few years as a lawyer working as a commercial property lawyer at Chapman Tripp in Auckland before moving to London and working for large city law firm Herbert Smith LLP as a senior associate in the real estate division.

Emma Gray

Lawyer

Emma attended St Paul’s Collegiate School in Hamilton before commencing her legal studies.  Emma graduated from Waikato University in May 2009 and was admitted to the Bar in Hamilton before launching her legal career with Hamertons in 2009.

Genna Maxwell

Lawyer

Genna grew up with her family in Taneatua, where she attended primary school, and later went on to Whakatane High School. From 2006 to 2009 Genna went to the University of Otago, graduating in December of 2009 with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB). Genna has been with Hamertons since November 2009, where she began her legal career as a Law Clerk.

Jude Wilson

Legal Executive

Jude Wilson joined Hamertons in February 2004 as a Law Clerk.  Jude undertook study by correspondence to qualify as a Legal Executive and completed studies in October 2006.  Jude was admitted as an Associate of the New Zealand Institute of Legal Executives in June 2007.

Megan Van Westbrook

Legal Executive

Megan qualified as a Legal Executive in 1986 after undertaking two years part time study at Auckland Technical Institute and for the past ten years has been a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Legal Executives.  Megan works independently and is part of Brian Carter’s team.  For over 20 years Megan has been based in our Kawerau office.
